Course 3: Advanced Course in the Practice of Biblical Counselling

Outcomes
At the end of Course 3 students will demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge and insight in the Biblical counselling model - i.e. dynamics of change, the method and four phases of counselling; principles in use of Scripture; cooperation with and referral to others in medical/help professions; ethics of counselling - confidentiality of information, transparency, etc.; using prayer in counselling.
    • Skills in application of counselling model; application of Biblical truths in problematic situations; prayer; use of counselling instruments; documentation and report writing.
    • Attitude / values:
      Humility, love, trustworthiness and spiritual maturity developed as the characteristics of a Biblical counsellor

  • One-on-one counselling under supervision and group reflection
  • Class and home counselling assignments and learning journal
  • Peer assessment
  • Class discussion of prescribed work
  • Self-evaluation as Biblical counsellor
  • Using measuring instruments i.e. blood test, questionnaires, genogram, etc.
  • Supplying index of counselling topics and applicable literature.
