Course 2: The Practice of Biblical Counselling

The purpose of Course 2  is to equip students to apply the Biblical Counselling model acquired in Course 1 to practical counselling situations.

Outcomes:
On completion of Course 2 students will demonstrate the following:

  1. Knowledge of the Biblical Counselling model; principles of Scripture usage; cooperation with and referral to other helping professionals; counselling ethics (e.g. confidentiality; transparency); a legal framework for counsellors
  2. Skills in the functional application of the Counselling Model in one-on-one counselling; application of Biblical truths in problem situations; prayer; telephonic communication; written/ email counselling; report writing; documenting counselling sessions.
  3. Attitude / values: Attributes of character like humility, love, perseverance and spiritual maturity.

Admission Requirement: Completion of the ABCE Counselling Course 1.

Number of students per group: Minimum 10; maximum 20.

Duration of course: Eleven months (January till November)

Contact sessions:  08:00 to 15:00.

Methodology: Dealing with counselling and group reflection; class and home counselling assignments; peer assessment; class discussion of prescribed work; telephone and written / email counselling; learning journal.
